IDM: Adding a Reserved License (second key) to an existing project

A single project can have up to two license keys: one Active and one Reserved.

  • The Active license is used for the migration until its data limit (GB) is exhausted.
  • The Reserved license serves as a backup key. It activates automatically when the Active license expires.
  • The switch between keys is seamless and fully automatic - the migration process continues without stopping or any user action.
  • Once activated, the Reserved key becomes the new Active key for the project.
  • You can add only one additional key per project using the Add License button.
  • Both keys must be of the same type (both Online or both Offline). The license type is displayed in the Type field on each license card.

How to add a Reserved license

On the Select a Project to Start screen, open the desired project card and click the Add License button in the License Information block (this button is visible only when the project has a single key).

The system opens the Additional License Registration screen, which works exactly like the regular License Registration screen (including the option to switch to Offline). Activate the second key as described above.

After successful activation, the Next button changes to Add Reserve License. Click it - a popup message will appear: “You have added an additional license key for project X. After the first key’s data usage is exhausted, migration will automatically continue with the reserved key.” Click OK to return to the project list.

License Information on the project card

When a project has only one license key, the License Information block shows a single card and the Add License button.

When two keys are connected, the block displays two separate cards that you can switch between using a slider. Each card contains the standard License Details, the Type field (Online or Offline), and a status:

  • Active - on the card currently used for migration, with a tooltip or notification: “Migration data for project X is processed under this license key.”
  • Reserved - on the backup card, with a tooltip or notification: “This is a reserved key. Migration will automatically continue with this key after the first key expires.” The status “Reserved” is also shown in the Expiration date field (according to the current design).

When two keys are present, the Add License button disappears.

During migration the system automatically switches from the Active key to the Reserved key as soon as the first key’s data limit is exhausted. After the switch, only the new Active key card remains visible, and the Add License button reappears so you can add a new reserved key if needed.
