Microsoft ODBC Driver for SQL Server: Data Source Name Not Found and No Default Driver Specified

Symptoms

During import into SQL Server, you may receive the following message: “Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft ODBC Driver for SQL Server: Data source name not found and no default driver specified.”.

Cause

When importing into a SQL Server database, our tool uses native utilities such as sqlcmd.exe and bcp.exe and runs them in command line mode. When these utilities are run from the command line, they use the ODBC driver. Therefore, if the computer running the migration process does not have an ODBC driver installed, you may receive this type of message.

Solution

To handle this problem, you need to install the Microsoft SQL Server ODBC Driver on the machine where you are performing the migration. You can download the Microsoft SQL ODBC driver from the official Microsoft website.
