Ispirer Assessment Wizard for Databases

On the Welcome page you should specify the project directory where sqlways.log file with the log of the assessment process and reports will be saved. By default the project directory is C:\Users\[User Name]\Documents\Ispirer\Ispirer Assessment Wizard 10\.

If you want to change the project directory, make sure that you have access to it or restart the tool with the right click and choose “Run as Administartor”. In other cases we can't guarantee that the reports will be saved properly.

At this stage, you can choose whether you want to analyze database objects or scripts using the assessment tool.

If you choose the “Database” option, you need to select the ODBC connection to the source database you wish to assess and specify the user and password that will be used to connect to it.

Please note: Our tool only works using an ODBC connection to the source database! This means that before running Ispirer Assessment Wizard, you need to install the ODBC driver and set up the ODBC connection to the database that is to be analyzed by the tool. For more information about source database user privileges, see the appropriate section for your source database.

Please note: The user specified on this page must have appropriate rights to select system tables from the source database. For more information about source database user privileges, see the appropriate section for your source database.

If you choose the “Scripts” option, you need to select the source DBMS and its version.

On the next “Choose a Target Database” page you need to specify information about your target database. This step is the same for analyzing both database objects and scripts.

On this page you can specify:

  • “Target:” - name of the destination database in your project;
  • “Product:” - product name, like LUW, AS400, ASE, ASA, IQ & etc.;
  • “Version:” - version of the target database.

If you are analyzing database objects, use the arrow buttons or simply drag & drop objects from the left pane to the right. You can move a single object, an entire schema, a specific object type, or your entire database.

If you are analyzing scripts, use the arrow buttons or simply drag & drop files from the left pane to the right.

NOTE: The remaining configuration steps for Assessment Wizard are the same for both database objects and scripts.

On this page you need to enter the size of the database data manually.

On this page we need to click “Execute” button to start assessment process and our Assessment Wizard will collect information about the objects selected for analysis.

On the “Execution Status” page you can check how assessment process is being performed.

The tool depicts each object while collecting the metrics and provides total statistics at the end of the log.

The same information can be found in sqlways.log file in the project directory.

Here you can see the assessment summary information containing the DSN name, selected objects and the link to the report with all the assessment details.

Similar information can be found in the “reports” folder in the project directory. There is a set of html files that contain the metrics.

Please send the entire “Reports” folder to our business managers for analysis.
This folder is located in the assessment project directory, you can open it by clicking the “Show in folder…” button.
FYI: The default project directory is C:\Users\[User Name]\Documents\Ispirer\Ispirer Assessment Wizard 10\.
